Professor Gómez has been working in the domain of unsteady free surface flow since the eighties, with specialization on Hydrology of natural basins and urban areas too. He is full professor since 2003 and responsible of these areas in the teaching and research activities (numerical, experimental and field studies) in his School of Civil Engineering. He has participated in several European projects as well as national research activities financed by Spanish authorities. He is the author of 3 books on Hydrology and Hydraulics, has coordinated 15 PhD thesis and has published more than 80 technical papers, most of them on impact journals. He has been the chief editor during 5 years of the journal in Spanish Ingeniería del Agua (Water Engineering) the most relevant journal to present hydraulic engineering developments in Spain and Latinamerica. He collaborates as reviewer in most of the relevant journals about Hydraulics and Hydrology topics. He is the coordinator at the UPC Technical University of Catalonia – Barcelona Tech of the Erasmus Mundus Master in Hydroinformatics and Water Management since 2004. One of the activities is the coordination of the Hydrolatinamerica event, where every year in a different city in a latinamerican country it is organized an intensive course of one week where student must solve in group a real flood problem. Last time was the 10th edition.
