Yuzhong Hu graduated from Anhui Hydraulic&Electric School in 1981 and then worked at several hydrological stations, meanwhile he studied hydrology at the College of Continuing Education, Hohai University for five years. He has worked at the Hydrological Bureau of Anhui Province since 2000 and currently served as deputy bureau director.
In the last few decades, he has dedicated himself to conducting topical research and published more than 30 papers. The paper of "Hydrological effects of human activities and ecological changes in the mountain areas of Southern Anhui Province" won the first prize of excellent natural science papers of Anhui Province; Five papers including "Analysis of routing parameters in Huangshan area" won the second prize.
He has chaired and participated in five scientific research projects. The project "The investigation evaluation of flash floods and the application of key technologies for the warning " won the second prize of scientific and technological progress of Anhui Province;"Researh on flood forecasting model in flash flood-prone areas" won the third prize; "The investigation and application of flood forecasting and warning system for the central urban area of Huangshan City" obtained the first prize of scientific and technological progress of Huangshan City.
In 2013, he created the flash floods investigation and rating technology system based on the idea of "coaxial double lines", "ternary homology" and "four-phase correlations". He  possessed the invention patent of "An evaluation method for the relationship between water level of a non-static water body and population affected by inundation in the mountainous area". His project "The flash flood investigation and evaluation information platform" was awarded by the Ministry of Water Resources as an excellent case of "intelligent water conservancy" in 2019. His research results have been derived and applied to the warning system of small and medium-sized rivers. During the typhoon "Lichma" in 2019, his precise warning for the upper reaches of Shuiyang River prevented heavy casualties and produced significant social benefits.
